This depends on a number of factors such as how long you have been suffering the health complaint, what has caused it (genetically inherited versus lifestyle causes), the amount of effort you put into making the recommended changes in diet and lifestyle, how compliant you are with taking any prescribed supplements and your state of mind. Most people notice some immediate changes in the way they feel, especially in terms of energy and sleep, but because naturopathy works on healing the underlying cause of your symptoms, true long-term healing can take a little longer. 3 months seems to be about the right amount of time needed to make significant changes for 80% of people.
No. If you are looking to lose weight naturopathically, you don’t need to count calories. I look more at creating long term changes to diet and lifestyle and look at exactly what you are eating, the proportions of the various categories of calories consumed and lifestyle factors which affect the way your body processes this food and influences the impact it has on your physiology and your wellbeing.
No, some aspects of your treatment plan will be short term to help resolve your symptoms while we work on healing the underlying issue. Other aspects will be longer term, depending on the nature of your underlying health issue how long it takes to heal that condition. Some aspects you will want to incorporate into your lifestyle long term because of the way you feel and for the long-term benefits to your health and future wellbeing.
I have an Honours Degree in Biological Sciences as well as an Advanced Diploma of Naturopathy. I am a long term member of the Australian Naturopathic Practitioners Association (ANPA). Member number 15/0768.
You can see me for as few or as many appointments as you feel you need. Generally people come for their initial appointments to get started on their treatment plan, then need 3 follow up appointments over the next 3 months to reach their health goals. After that, it is up to you. Some people like to continue coming every 3-6 months for another year to ensure their health does not slip backwards again and then most people choose to come once a year after they’ve had their yearly blood tests done just to ensure everything is on track and to address any other issues which may have arisen for them during the year.

A naturopath takes a completely wholistic approach to health and looks at all aspects of health. This can include things such as family and personal health history, personality type, lifestyle including social support, history of trauma, physical activity, mind/body/spirit work, mindset, sleep, exposure to sun and nature etc. Naturopathy also looks at diet and can prescribe nutritional, herbal and mineral supplements. The aspects of diet considered are the source of your food, the quality of the food, the amount eaten, how it is consumed and why etc. Dieticians generally only look at diet and follow government mandated guidelines for ensuring recommended daily allowances of nutrients and calories are met.
Naturopaths can assist with any health issues you may be experiencing. Many people come to a naturopath after they have visited doctors and specialist and either have been told there is nothing wrong with them (despite knowing they don’t feel right) or they are not happy with the options presented to them. For example, for most female hormonal conditions the only options given are the pill, surgery or synthetic hormone replacement therapy. Naturopathy on the other hand offers many options for helping the body to balance hormones, reduce inflammation and pain, regulate immunity and actually heal the root cause of the condition, helping you feel normal again. Some of the areas naturopathy can be extremely effective for include digestive issues, fatigue, headaches, migraines, hormonal complaints (PMS, menopause, PCOS, infertility, endometriosis), arthritis, autoimmune conditions, anxiety, depression and other mood disorders, skin complaints, and insomnia.
The effectiveness of herbs, vitamins and minerals is backed by many hundreds of thousands of scientific papers showing them to have statistically significant impacts on health and disease states. Furthermore, naturopathy is backed by thousands of years of traditional use by various ancient cultures around the world. Now, it is also back by years of clinical evidence in thousands of people testify to the incredible benefits they have received after seeking naturopathic treatment. Iridology is the science of the iris, or the coloured part of the eye. Every part of the body is attached to a nerve and these nerves travel up through the spinal column to the brain and dead end in the optic nerve. So, when we look at the iris we are seeing nerve reflexes from every part of the body. Iris analysis is based on the markings, structures, pigmentation and colour variations in the iris which are located in specific areas of the iris and relate to specific areas of the body. These markings can show structural or functional attributes such as lowered or sluggish function, hyperactivity, inflammation, stagnation, toxicity and damage. Iridology is not an exact science, and much of what we see can simply be historic (i.e. an indication of past injury or trauma) or inherited (meaning it is an area for you to watch but not necessarily a foregone conclusion for your long term health). Iridology dates back thousands of years and study continues with new discoveries constantly being made.
